AboutFace-USA® Special Programs FREE to Veterans and their families. Mainly in Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth & Pickens Counties (or near-by).
As veterans ourselves, we have seen and experienced how difficult it is to understand what may be going on with our physical and mental health. We also know finding someone who can walk you through the process of understanding which resources can help in various parts of our lives and with complicated health issues can be daunting. Further, working with large bureaucracies like the Department of Veterans Affairs can be infuriating and confusing. Many give up because of the difficulties. We are here to walk with you every step of the way to a better place in your life.

Vet Center Call Center - (877) 927-8387
Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide a wide range of social and psychological services, including professional counseling to eligible Veterans, service members, including National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Counseling is offered to make a successful transition from military to civilian life or after a traumatic event experienced in the military. Individual, group, marriage and family counseling is offered in addition to referral and connection to other VA or community benefits and services. Vet Center counselors and outreach staff, many of whom are Veterans themselves, are experienced and prepared to discuss the tragedies of war, loss, grief and transition after trauma.

Congress passed legislation to help pay for emergency care for acute suicidal crises among veterans to combat rising veteran suicide rates. Learn more below:
Starting January 17, 2023, VA will provide, pay for or reimburse emergency care for certain Veterans and individuals – including ambulance transportation costs, follow-on inpatient or residential care related to the [suicidal crisis] for up to 30 days and outpatient care for up to 90 days, including social work.
Starting Jan. 17, [2023] all veterans will be able to access emergency mental healthcare free of charge at any Veterans Affairs medical facility or outside clinic, regardless of whether they are already enrolled in department health care services.
The Veterans Comprehensive Prevention, Access to Care, and Treatment Act of 2020 (COMPACT) pays for treatment of eligible individuals’ emergent suicide care, including transportation costs, at a VA or non-VA facility (up to 30 days of inpatient and 90 days of outpatient care, unless extended by VA). Download this frequently asked questions document to learn more.
This fact sheet gives mental health and other providers the key information they need to understand available services under the COMPACT Act and detailed information on how to properly access services for veterans in an acute suicidal crisis.
